Debt vs. Deficit
It's time to talk about the former.
From
The Telegraph:
A simple idea but why don’t we stop talking about deficits? Familes don’t talk about the household deficit i.e. the annual overspend. They talk about debt. If you’re in debt, if you have any sense at all you reduce that debt rather than being satisfied with reducing the amount that the debt increases each year.
If President Barack Obama had to talk about debt then he wouldn’t be able to gain kudos from the gullible/complacent/statist by saying he’s “reducing the deficit” (in fact, of course, he’s increasing it). By reducing but not eliminating the deficit you actually increase the debt – D’Oh!.
