He added that Obama's remarks at the Chamber demonstrated his willingness to reach out to a variety of Americans.

"I think it's appropriate that he reach out," Hoyer said. "The way we're going to do that is to have a working relationship with business and the Congress and the president so we can have policies in place that can make that happen."

Hoyer also added that there is no question Obama is thinking about his reelection. "Is he focused on the next election? Of course," he said. "I think that's the right thing to do."
